TAMMY CAME TO OUR HOME, SAT WITH ME FOR A FEW HOURS, AND GAVE ME A WONDERFUL RESOURCE BOOK ON BREAST CANCER. IT EXPLAINED ALL THE TYPES, QUESTIONS TO ASK DOCTORS AND RESOURCES FOR MANY THINGS TO GET ONE THROUGH THIS ORDEAL. SHE CONFIRMED THE MEDICAL TEAM I WAS COMPILING BECAUSE SHE HAS BEEN IN MAMMOGRAPHY AND MEDICAL DEVICE SALES FOR MOST OF HER CAREER. SHE EXPLAINED MANY OF THE SCANS AND LAB TESTS I WAS WAITING ON AS FAR AS WHAT YOU LEARN FROM THEM. AFTER OUR TIME TOGETHER, I FELT EMPOWERED AND MORE IN CONTROL. IN THIS SITUATION, YOU ARE YOUR OWN BEST ADVOCATE TO POWER THROUGH THE FIRST FEW MONTHS UNTIL TREATMENTS START. THROUGH THE
FOLLOWING WEEKS I WAS ABLE TO CONTACT TAMMY WITH ANY QUESTIONS THAT AROSE AND SHE PROMPLY RESPONDED. SHE CHECKS IN WITH ME PERIODICALLY ON HOW I’M DOING AND IF I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AND THAT IS WONDERFUL IN ITSELF.

Only one year did I ever skip my mammogram and thankfully it wasn’t this year or I would have been in deep trouble.
At the end of Dec ‘23 I had my annual mamo that came back suspicious.
I found myself with an imaging company that just made me feel like they were not the right fit for me. I wanted a company that dealt with women and specialized in this field, so my first message to Tammy was “Any suggestions?” and she had the perfect fit for me.
Next, ultrasound, then needle biopsy – when the path report came back positive for invasive and IN SITU ductal carcinoma. I was referred to a breast surgeon and oncologist which Tammy also helped me find for the right fit. Luckily they work as a team and hold clinics once a week so the meet and greet was seamless. A lot of information is downloaded so you need someone with you to take notes and help you remember to ask the questions you have made a list of. Use the book Tammy provides. It’s so helpful and it’s okay if it sits on the table for a bit before you can open it, you’ll get there.
Now, the part that means the most to me is the guidance and limitless support that Tammy at Breast Cancer Coach provided me instantaneously. When I got this diagnosis I felt like a clock starting ticking and I couldn’t move fast enough to get a plan generated. Tammy understood this without me even mentioning it to her, fast track is crucial because it is so easy to fall between the cracks of an overburdened healthcare industry. You have to be your own scheduler and think outside of the box for the results you need. Offer to travel for tests, walk into an office and let them know the urgency that you feel for getting things scheduled, try to get on a cancellation list, call every morning for cancellations, and always be kind to the staff even if you aren’t feeling it. The hospital was going to book me for a needle biopsy at the end of March, over a month away, I said that didn’t work for me and started thinking outside of the box with Tammy’s guidance.
Whenever I needed a question answered Tammy would be right there with such clear and understanding answers, layman’s talk that I understood. She seemed to know just when to message a “Hi, how are you doing, any questions?” and check on me before and after my surgery.
It means more than I can say in words to know that there is a team in place for me like the Breast Cancer Coaches that have my back and understand what this means to me personally not cookie-cutter care because we as women are all different.
Post surgery and waiting for the final path report and meeting with the oncologist for the next plan of action and I know that Tammy and her team will be there for me.
